3 Tried & Tested Natural Hair Remedies

Whether you want your hair to look healthier than they currently do or you want to undo the damage caused by years of heatingand bleaching (like me), I have some tried and tested hair remedies for you. Trust me when I say this, these will do wonders for your hair, you just have to be a little patient. Let’s dive straight into it and save your hair!

1) Aloe Vera

As you might already know, aloe vera is the secret ingredient for all things skin and hair. Since we’re talking specifically about hair, aloe vera is known to treat hair loss while soothing the scalp. So, if you have an itchy scalp, aloe vera is the answer. Not only that, it reduces dandruff and deep cleans as it cleanses the hair shaft, stripping off extra sebum and residue from hair products.

How to: Apply fresh aloe vera to your hair about 30 minutes before washing it off with cool water. Be careful about leaving aloe vera on your hair for longer since excess of it can dry out your hair instead. Do try a patch test- as with any product- before going all in to be on the safe side.

What it did for me: Aloe vera saved my dying, bleached hair. I replaced it with regular oiling and applied it to my hair before showering twice a week. Anytime, anyone would ask me how my hair was still alive post bleach, I would tell them to grow some aloe vera in their house. I’m almost tempted to start talking about the skin benefits of aloe vera but perhaps that’s a topic for another time and article.

2) Onion Juice

I know what you’re thinking- the smell of onion juice is horrible but if you can move past that, you’d be surprised at just how beneficial onion juice is for hair. Onion juice is known to promote hair growth and regrowth while improving circulation. When applied onto hair and scalp, it provides extra sulfur preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth.

How to: Blend two onions and 4-5 garlic cloves in a blender. Take a piece of cloth and place the blended onions and garlic into it. Strain the juice out into a bowl. Apply on hair and massage the scalp. Leave on for about 30 minutes and thoroughly wash your hair. Repeat this process every day for a month if you want to see maximum results and if you want to get rid of the smell after two weeks. Once you have done this regularly for 30 days, you can switch to twice a week. You can store the juice in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

What it did for me: Exactly what it says it does. I could see new baby hair that definitely wasn’t there when I first started applying it. And oh, was 30 days a commitment. But I did it and I was so glad I did because it made my hair feel like they had gotten a second life.

3) Rice Water

As claimed by experts, the benefits of rice water are increased hair volume, better hair shine and appearance, dandruff prevention and stronger follicles. Does it do what it says? Absolutely. You start seeing an improvement in your hair after just ONE wash. Your hair feels shinier and with regular use, your hair feels healthier as well.

How to: Take ½ cup of uncooked rice and rinse it well. Add 2-3 cups of water into it and cover it with a lid. After one hour, strain the water accumulated over the rice into a glass jar and keep it shut for 24 hours. Then, move the water into a spray bottle to use it with ease. Spray rice water onto your hair after washing your hair normally with shampoo and conditioner twice a week. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse your hair with water again. Don’t shampoo or condition your hair after. You can keep the rice water in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Do try a patch test before you start using it regularly.

What it did for me: As I mentioned earlier, rice water definitely shows results right after the first wash. I could never imagine my hair to feel smooth and silky like it used to before the bleaching, especially without using conditioner after rice water. Some days I wouldn’t feel the need to use conditioner at all as my hair would feel soft just with rice water. With regular use, my hair not only looked softer and shinier but felt thicker which was a win for me since I didn’t remember the last time my hair felt that way.

Conclusion

And there you have it; my 3 tried & tested hair remedies that I swear by. With a little patience and consistency, you’ll find out why these are my all-time favorite and be amazed by their results. Goodluck!
