Many times, a movie sticks with you not just because you were affected by its story, direction or acting but by the way actors were dressed in it. If the costume designer plays their role right, a movie can be a hit only because of its fashion. We at Libas Now are crazy about fashion in films and often take inspiration from reel life, through memorable movies like The Devil Wears Prada, Clueless, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and others. Here’s a list of some of our favourite fashion moments and stylish characters in Hollywood.
Holly Golightly From Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Is it even possible to talk about the most fashionable moments in Cinema and not talk about Audrey Hepburn’s iconic role as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? She basically invented the LBD (little black dress) when she wore a Givenchy master piece in the opening of this classic romantic comedy. Plus, you girls can learn a thing or two from her about colour blocking, because she pulled it off way before it was cool in her candy pink outfit.
Cher Horowitz From Clueless (1995)

The year 1995 was truly glorious a) I was born in it (lol) and b) the movie Clueless was released this year. Clueless not only became the go-to chick flick to watch at sleepovers with our girlfriends, but also schooled us majorly on how to wear plaid separates. We are not the only ones inspired by Cher Horowitz’ sense of style, fashion influencer Olivia Palermo wore Cher-like yellow plaid matching separates quite recently and totally owned the look.
Andy Sachs From Devil Wears Prada (2006)

No fashion movie is complete without a character whose sense of style is so strong that it alters the wardrobe of its audience. In this case the movie is The Devil Wears Prada and the diva is Andy Sachs played by Anne Hathaway. Her transformation from a meekly assistant to a straight up bold fashion goddess is something we all aspire towards and not just wardrobe wise. Her new-found confidence was also obvious and inspiring in her new clothing choices. From leather boots to Chanel jackets, all of Andy’s garments were worth going gaga over!
Cecillia Tallis From Atonement (2007)

Although this movie does not seem like a fashion focused movie, based around the events of WW2, there’s nothing glamourous about this movie except for Cecillia Tallis; the main lead played by Kiera Knightly. Cecillia’s emerald green silk slip dress made for stellar onscreen style. We know it’s very difficult to pull off a slip dress but my god Kiera certainly made us want to effortlessly rock one like a Hollywood heroine.
Carrie Bradshaw From Sex and the City (2008)

Carrie Bradshaw is a GODDESS, period. All her clothes throughout the series and the movies were epic. It’s amazing how her character was so persistent when it came to an amazing sense of style. Although she has many great outfits going on for her, my personal favourite is making this list and that is her gorgeous Vivien Westwood wedding gown. To be honest after looking at her dress as a teenage girl I seriously wanted to walk down the aisle wearing something exactly like it (please note the irony that I’m a very desi brown girl wanting to get married in white…)
