“Once You Meet Her You Never Really Forget Her”

Lahore-based fashion photographer Aleena Naqvi’s two-year-old Tibetan Terrier Burrito is her ‘best companion’ during this lockdown, (aside from her husband, of course – therapist husband Akbar Hussain). Read her update on her life and our favourite exuberant terrier.

Hi! I’m a 28 (soon to be 29) year old photographer based out of Lahore. I primarily focus on fashion photography but honestly anything to do with the camera has my heart. From taking pictures of old beautiful homes to stalking my husband around the house, I simply love taking pictures.

For over a month my husband and I have been in self-isolation which has been challenging to say the least! While I do enjoy this new pace of life that is slower, I miss the opportunity of being able to work; as I’m a photographer it’s a little challenging to find spaces where I could work given the current situation. It has however allowed me to explore other avenues of my creativity and focus on projects that have been covered in dust since I haven’t looked at them in so long.

“My best companion aside from my husband (who’s work hours have only doubled in this lockdown) is Burrito”

My best companion aside from my husband (who’s work hours have only doubled in this lockdown) is Burrito. From the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep my pet is my tail. (Pun intended). Burrito isn’t like most dogs, I don’t believe she knows she’s actually a dog because her behaviour and reactions are so human like. She’s animated and funny and empathetic.

She knows when I’m upset and will come be with me giving me her best puppy dog eyes so I know that she’s here for me. Burrito has been with us for about three years, I insisted around Akbar’s birthday that what HE truly wanted was a puppy. Trust me that’s not what he actually wanted. And since the day we brought her home in a fruit basket she has lit up the house.

During this lockdown Burrito has always had one parent or the other by her side, the excitement has been so overwhelming that her tail wagging ability has gone into overdrive. She simple cannot get over the fact that we truly have nowhere to go. However she isn’t too pleased with the increased number of walks since she is a little dog and she doesn’t walk so much as do a light sprint since her legs are too short. From car rides to jeep rides, she has been entertained every day. I don’t think she will cope so well once this lockdown is over.

Burrito is unique, she thrives on human attention. Sometimes she’s so excited to be petted that she doesn’t know how to sit still even when someone is petting her. She is a massive cuddler and has zero concept of personal space. Once you meet her you never really forget her, she knows how to make a lasting impression by either humping you or spinning around you in circles till your dizzy. Perhaps if I made an Instagram account for Burrito she would be more famous than I’ve been trying to be with actual images of my photography.

Signing out,

Burrito’s favourite parent,

Aleena
